Unfortunately modern pastures rarely provide more than a couple of grass species and few legumes or herbs. In addition vitamins and minerals are frequently lost in the processing and storage of modern concentrated diets. Therefore supplementation of vitamins minerals and trace elements is recommended for all horses regardless of workload. Feeding a vitamin supplement alone is not adequate as minerals and trace elements are the nutrients most likely to be low or out of balance in both the concentrate diet and the available grazing.
